About IPL
Why patients choose LIV
- Best for
- Sun spots, redness, rosacea, broken vessels
- Areas
- Face, neck, chest and hands
- Results
- Spots darken, then flake away in about a week
- Downtime
- Minimal
IPL, or intense pulsed light, is absorbed by pigment and by small blood vessels in the skin. The light heats those targets and your body gradually clears them away. Brown spots usually darken first, then flake off over about a week.
At LIV, IPL is performed by our laser team, including aesthetician Laura Memishi and Maria Sanchez, MA, with Sangini overseeing your skin plan. Fall and winter are the ideal time to book in Chicago, when there is less sun on healing skin. Many patients pair IPL with Laser Genesis or Moxi for tone and texture.
Good for
- Sun spots and age spots
- Freckles and sun damage
- Diffuse redness and rosacea
- Broken capillaries
- Uneven tone on the chest and hands
How it works
IPL photofacial
Fades sun spots and redness for clearer, more even skin.
Intense Pulsed Light uses broad-spectrum light to target pigment and blood vessels in the skin.
- Pigmentation correction: fades age spots, freckles and sun damage
- Vascular therapy: reduces broken blood vessels and spider veins
- Rosacea: can notably reduce redness
- Collagen stimulation: softens fine lines
- Texture: a smoother, more even tone
IPL is effective on the face, neck, chest and hands, and you can return to regular activities straight after. See how it compares in IPL vs Laser Genesis.

Reviews
In their words
★★★★★
“As a WOC I'm so lucky to have found Sangini and her team. They answer all of my questions and are always professional. Laser treatment changed my life!! I'm a repeat client now!”
★★★★★
“Loved the new location... Most importantly, [she] answered all my questions, and discussed my various options before the procedure. My skin laser treatment was completed in a highly professional manner, checking in with me repeatedly through out the service, and then reviewed with me my post procedure expectations and outcomes. As an older guy 60+ years young, always happy with the results.”
Why do Chicago patients book IPL in fall and winter?
IPL makes skin more sensitive to the sun while it heals. Shorter days and more covered skin from October to March make it easier to protect your results.
Can IPL treat rosacea redness?
IPL can noticeably reduce redness and visible vessels for many people with rosacea, usually alongside a medical skin care plan.
Who should not have IPL?
IPL is not suitable for recently tanned skin and may not suit some deeper skin tones. We assess your skin first and may suggest a gentler option such as Moxi or Laser Genesis.
How much does an IPL photofacial cost?
It depends on the area and how many sessions you need, and we price your plan at consultation. The $150 consultation fee for new consultations is fully credited toward services booked.
