Botox vs Dysport vs Jeuveau: How Sangini Chooses for Your Face

Three FDA-approved neurotoxins, one goal. Here is how they actually differ, and why the right choice depends on your face rather than the brand name.

"Should I get Botox or Dysport?" is one of the most common questions we hear at Liv Aesthetics Chicago. The honest answer is that all three neurotoxins we offer work beautifully. The difference is in the details, and choosing well is part of what an experienced injector brings.

Here is how Botox, Dysport and Jeuveau compare, and how our founder Sangini Patel, M.S., PA-C, decides which one suits your face.

What they have in common

Botox, Dysport and Jeuveau are all purified forms of botulinum toxin type A. Each one temporarily relaxes the specific muscles that crease your skin when you frown, squint or raise your brows. Relax the muscle and the line above it softens.

All three are:

  • FDA-approved for frown lines between the brows
  • Quick to inject, usually 15 to 30 minutes
  • Low in downtime, so most people return to their day straight away
  • Temporary, typically lasting three to four months

The differences that matter

Botox Dysport Jeuveau
Maker Allergan Galderma Evolus
On the market for cosmetics Since 2002 Since 2009 Since 2019
When results start About 3 to 5 days Often 2 to 3 days About 3 to 5 days
Spread More precise, stays put Spreads a little more Similar to Botox
Best known for The most studied, the most predictable Larger areas, a softer blend A newer option with a similar feel to Botox

Units are not interchangeable. A unit of Dysport is not the same strength as a unit of Botox, so you will see different unit numbers for the same area. Comparing prices per unit across brands can be misleading. Ask what the total treatment will cost instead.

How Sangini chooses

After 22 years and 100,000+ aesthetic procedures, Sangini chooses based on your anatomy and goals rather than a default brand.

For precise areas, like crow's feet close to the eye or a subtle brow lift, a product that stays exactly where it is placed is often the better fit.

For broader areas, like a wide forehead, a product that blends a little more can give a smooth, even result with fewer injection points.

If you have a big event coming up, a product that tends to kick in a little sooner can help, although we always recommend booking at least two weeks ahead.

If you have history with one product, that matters. Some patients simply prefer how one feels or find it lasts longer for them. We keep notes so your next treatment builds on what worked last time.

Our patients use all three. One describes her Dysport results this way: "Her goal has always been natural-looking results and that's exactly what she delivers." Another calls Sangini "a true Botox artist" for how she "strategically places each unit." The product matters, but placement matters more.

Does one last longer?

Results vary more from person to person than from brand to brand. Your muscle strength, metabolism, the dose and how often you are treated all play a role. Most patients get three to four months from any of the three. Treating consistently tends to help results last.

What to expect at your appointment

  1. Consultation. Sangini watches your face move and talks through your goals.
  2. Product choice. She recommends Botox, Dysport or Jeuveau and explains why.
  3. Treatment. A few quick, tiny injections. Most people describe it as a pinch.
  4. Two-week check-in. Your results settle, and we fine-tune if needed.

Frequently asked questions

Is Dysport better than Botox?

Neither is better for everyone. Dysport can start working a little faster and spreads slightly more, which suits some areas. Botox is very precise and the most studied. Your injector should recommend one based on your face.

Is Jeuveau the same as Botox?

Jeuveau is a different brand of botulinum toxin type A, approved in 2019 for frown lines. Many patients find it feels similar to Botox.

Can I switch between brands?

Yes. Many patients try more than one over the years. Just let your injector know what you have had before and how it worked for you.

How much does Botox cost in Chicago?

Pricing varies by brand, area and the number of units you need. We will give you a clear estimate at your consultation. The $150 consultation fee is fully credited toward any services booked.
