Morpheus8 vs Sofwave: Which Skin Tightening Treatment Is Right for You?

Both build collagen and tighten skin without surgery. Here is how they differ in downtime, comfort and results, and why many of our patients use both.

Morpheus8 and Sofwave are two of the most requested skin tightening treatments at Liv Aesthetics Chicago. Both stimulate new collagen, both are non-surgical and both deliver gradual, natural-looking results. But they work in different ways and suit different goals.

The short answer

  • Choose Sofwave if your main goal is lift and tightening, especially around the brows, jawline and neck, and you want no downtime.
  • Choose Morpheus8 if you also want to improve texture, acne scars and pores, and you can plan for a few days of pinkness.

Many patients do both over time, because they treat different layers of the skin.

How Sofwave works

Sofwave uses ultrasound energy, delivered by parallel beams to the mid-dermis, the layer where collagen lives. The surface of the skin is protected by an integrated cooling system, so there are no needles and no wounds.

That heat triggers your body to make new collagen and elastin. You might notice a little glow straight away, but the real lift builds over about 12 weeks as new collagen forms.

Sofwave is best for:

  • Mild to moderate laxity at the brows, jawline and neck
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • People who want results without any social downtime

How Morpheus8 works

Morpheus8 combines microneedling with radiofrequency. Fine needles carry radiofrequency heat into the deeper layers of the skin, remodeling collagen from below while the microneedling refines the surface.

Because it works on both levels, Morpheus8 is excellent for texture as well as tightening.

Morpheus8 is best for:

  • Acne scars and uneven texture
  • Enlarged pores
  • Laxity on the face, and on the body with Morpheus8 Body
  • People happy with a few days of recovery

Can you combine them?

Yes, and it often makes sense. Sofwave works on lift, Morpheus8 on texture. We space treatments so your skin has time to heal and rebuild between them. We might also add regenerative treatments like PRF, or medical-grade skin care, to support results.

What results can I expect?

Both treatments create real, gradual change, not the dramatic pull of a surgical facelift. Expect firmer, smoother skin that looks naturally refreshed. Collagen keeps building for months after treatment, and results are longer lasting with good sun protection and skin care.

How to choose

The right answer depends on your skin, your goals and your calendar. At your consultation we look at laxity, texture and skin type, then recommend one, the other, or a plan that layers both. Learn more about both treatments on our facial lasers page.
